How Oversized & Permit Freight Works
Freight that’s too big, too heavy or too awkward for a standard load moves under a different set of rules, more than just careful handling.

When a Permit Is Needed
Under Australia’s Heavy Vehicle National Law, a load that exceeds standard mass or dimension limits and can’t reasonably be broken down is treated as a Class 1 load. Moving it usually means an oversize and overmass (OSOM) permit before the truck leaves the yard, not paperwork sorted after the fact.

Route Planning & Escorts
Some oversized moves need a pilot or escort vehicle, depending on the size of the load and the roads involved. Getting the route right matters as much as the truck itself, bridges, tight corners and clearance heights all factor into the plan before the day of the move.

Dangerous Goods, in Plain English
Dangerous goods freight in Australia is governed by the Australian Dangerous Goods Code, which sets out how different classes of hazardous material need to be packed, labelled and kept apart from each other in transit. It’s detailed, and it’s meant to be, the rules exist because getting it wrong has real consequences.
In practice, that means correct classification of what’s being carried, the right packaging and labelling for that class, and cargo segregation so incompatible materials never end up loaded together. That’s the standard every dangerous goods job runs to with us, not just the ones a customer happens to ask about.
